Ardyss emerged in 1991 as a Mexican Manufacturing Company that developed a new concept in corsetry designed for reshaping the female figure. This innovative concept was an idea that belonged to Mr. Antonio Díaz de León.
In the beginning the company faced difficult times, but due to the dedication, enthusiasm and creativity of both Antonio and Armida Díaz de León, they succeeded at developing a series of exclusive garment designs supported by a team of engineers, physicians, cosmetologists, and nutritionists. They managed to develop and patent these useful and necessary garments with the highest quality standards and applying medical and engineering principles.
Like many other leading companies, the history of Ardyss began with a fortuitous event. In 1990, after concluding his job for the Customs Administration in Reynosa, Tamps.; Mr. Antonio Díaz de León opened his offices in Guadalajara, Mexico. Antonio had the idea of acquiring exclusive representations of several companies; however, as soon as they found out that he was a former government employee, they refused to deal with him and denied the representations. Many others would have given up-Antonio persevered.
Later on that same year, Antonio was driving from Guadalajara to Mexico City in search of representations. However, a fortuitous event was about to change his destiny and made him forget the representations. During the journey he gave a lift to five rural teachers. As soon as they got in the car, he asked the teachers if they weren't embarrassed at having to hitch-hike on the road. One of them immediately answered 'That's right, sir, but it costs $12.00 to go to work and $12.00 to return home. That comes to $120.00 per week which means $480.00 per month- and we earn $550.00.' Probably just to continue the conversation, Antonio asked them 'Do you do anything else to generate incomes?'. One of them answered, 'Yes sir, a neighbor lends me a brochure to sell cosmetics and I make sales showing the pamphlet.' All of a sudden, that comment reminded Antonio of the time when he was a university student; he had seen the birth of that industry in Mexico. He began to imagine all the different possibilities, as it frequently occurs with visionaries.
This is when the fundamental concept of his industry was born. When he arrived in Mexico City, the first thing he did was to go and visit the cosmetic company. He had a meeting with them to find out how they managed the business. As he left the cosmetic company he set himself a goal: 'I will make my company stronger!' said Antonio. After analyzing the possibilities, he decided that initially it would be easier to sell undergarments than cosmetics.
Since Ardyss recognizes the importance of doing things in the right way, we constantly search for excellence in the quality of our products and in the way we deal with everyone involved in our industry.
At Ardyss we are convinced that 'WE CAN BE WHAT WE BELIEVE WE CAN BE.'
Each one of us can improve our surroundings by being an enthusiastic and creative person who can help shape the world and make it a better place to live. During the process we will be creating our own destiny.
Now that the decision had been made, Antonio began to work. He published an ad in the newspaper looking for the person who would later become his manager. During the interview the candidate suggested 'Sir, why don’t you manufacture this brassiere?'. Antonio asked 'What does that brassiere do?' and she immediately answered, 'It does anything you want, seriously, it does everything. It makes the breasts larger, and it can make them smaller as well. It makes the breasts firm and it corrects the size of them if they are uneven. It does marvels.'
In that very moment he was convinced of the benefits of the undergarment and, with the support of an assembly manufacturer, on October 8th, 1990, Antonio began to produce the Ardyss Professional Reshaping Brassiere. Antonio began working with his wife and their two sons. 'My wife did everything. She cut, she was in charge of the supplies, she did everything. And my sons were the ones doing the packing', says Antonio in great satisfaction and pride.
However, nothing is easy at the beginning. On November 10th, 1991, Antonio’s assembler left the company due to a tempting job offer from the competition. Such event was going to be a determining factor for the future of Ardyss. It was the very moment in which Antonio Díaz de León decided not to depend on anyone else to continue with his plan. Without any experience and only with a great desire to learn, he decided to rent a 300-square-meter industrial warehouse located on Sabadell street, in the Mexico City metropolitan area. He began with 8 sewing machines and 500 meters of fabric. In that place Ardyss began as a manufacturing and commercial company on December 7th, 1991.
